Love Plaza, Sheffield

1918 Avalon Avenue, Muscle Shoals

The 18-foot tall, semi-abstract sculpture of a guitar-slinging rocker in Sheffield's Love Plaza was created from recycled aluminium by Tuscumbia metalwork artist Audwin McGee. It was unveiled in September 2012 as the first in a series of sculptures which pay tribute to the Muscle Shoals music legacy.

The second "Singing River" sculpture, completed two years later, depicts Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section bassist David Hood playing his instrument while sitting on a stool.

The recycled aluminium used to create both sculptures was donated by Shoals-based manufacturer Wise Alloys. Future plans include additional "city sculptures" in Florence and Tuscumbia, and a "sculpture garden" in Veteran's Park.
